Peridot

Peridot, sometimes called olivine, is a silicate of magnesium and iron. This gem is typically an olive green. The yellow version of this silicate is called chrysolite. The more transparent, the more valuable the stone. Peridot is not typically found as a large stone, generally smaller stones are more common.

This gem is found on the island of Zebirget in the Red Sea, in lava in Hawaii, Burma, Italy, Germany, Arizona, and Brazil. Having a hardness of 6.5 - 7.0, this stone is cut into many shapes, including round, diamond, pear, oval, and square cuts.
