Citrine

The yellow to brownish yellow variety of quartz is called Citrine. It is found in Brazil, North Carolina, California, Spain, and Russia. This gem has a hardness of 7 and often is formed in large trigonal crystals or in clusters such as those found in geodes. A popular gemstone, Citrine (SiO2) has the same chemical makeup as amethyst, rose quartz, and tiger-eye. In fact amethyst, when heated, will turn yellow like citrine.
